GEAR GUIDE

This kit includes all of the equipment and apparel you need to safely, comfortably and effectively hunt and harvest squirrels. Some guide picks are recommended but so long as your gear sounds up to the task in the descriptions, you should have happy harvests!

RIFLE

A .22 caliber rim fire rifle with an accurate shot will take squirrels up to 75 yards, relatively quiet with the least amount of damage to the meat.

SCOPE

A lightweight rimfire optic between a 2.5 - 7 power magnitude is more than adequate range for deep forest encounters.

AMMUNITION

A .22 caliber rim fire rifle with an accurate shot will take squirrels up to 75 yards, relatively quiet with the least amount of damage to the meat.

KNIFE

Any sharp pointed 3"+ pocket knife is efficient for puncturing small game hide. A skinning blade isn't required as most of a squirrel pelt is peeled off. Keep it compact and easy to sharpen!

GAME SHEARS

A wild game or medical grade pair of clipping shears are a more efficient and safer tool for many cuts in the process of field dressing a squirrel.

Apparel:

HEAD

Go blaze orange beanie or baseball cap depending on the temps.

HANDS

When it gets colder, put on a pair of glove liners with good grip.

Look for windproof fabric technologies that protect from the elements

while maintaining dexterity.

TOP: BASE LAYER

Select wool or synthetic tee shirts or 1/4 zip long sleeves. These fabrics are great with moisture transfer and odor avoidance.

JACKET / VEST

A great all around small game vest is durable, water repellent and features ample organization for ammo and spacious game pockets.

UNDERWEAR

Ex Officio, always. Wear one pair all weekend with the most comfortable, breathable, quick drying briefs.

BOTTOMS

A great everyday then into the outdoors pant has a comfortable cut, 4 way stretch tech fabric and a range of crossover colors.

SOCKS

Wool socks transfer moisture most efficiently, avoid odor and continue to insulate when wet. Select greater weight and cuff height for lower temperatures.

FOOTWEAR

Early season hunting and hiking boots feature mid height ankle support and quick to break in synthetic materials.
